Tomorrow Might Come Very, Very Soon
February 28, 2007 | 4 Comments
All you Car of Tomorrow haters might have to get over all the hating a little sooner than anticipated:
Nextel Cup Series director John Darby said Wednesday that he expects teams to run a full schedule with COT racecars by 2008.
The original plan NASCAR developed after consulting with team owners called for a three-year phase-in of […]

Umm, Yeah, Go Matt Kenseth (Yawn)
February 27, 2007 | 2 Comments
Something about a Matt Kenseth victory manages to immediately wipe away most of my short-term memory of the actual race and causes less-than-excitement within my bosom. I mean, Matt’s a decent enough guy, and I don’t root against him. But I also don’t root for him, so every time he wins my reaction is always […]

Umm, Nice Picks, Sake the Sea Lion
February 24, 2007 | 2 Comments
I’m a little baffled as to what this has to do with anything, but apparently the track president of California Speedway had Sake the sea lion pick balls with each drivers’ number on them, as a way of predicting who will win the race.
Sake’s picks? Tony Raines, Dale Jarrett, and Scott Riggs.
Far be it from […]

California Speedway Qualifying

(Man, far too much work and busyness this week. Many apologies for the lack of VroomTalk this week).
So Jeff Gordon grabbed the pole at Fontana, who seems happy to leave restrictor plate racing behind for awhile:
“It feels good to me just to get out from restrictor plate racing and have a car that has downforce […]

NASCAR’s Prayer: Dear Lord Wee Baby Jesus Baby, Please Let The Auto Club 500 at California Speedway Be the Most Boring, Uneventful Race Ever
February 19, 2007 | 1 Comment
Lots of people weighing in on the controversial Daytona finish, which, like the entire week, was a mixed blessing for NASCAR. Lots of excitement counterbalanced with lots of controversy.
This one really was a no-win situation for NASCAR officials, as far as whether to throw the yellow or not. If they do throw the yellow, everyone […]

To Yellow or Not to Yellow
February 19, 2007 | 1 Comment
I’m not the only one confused by NASCAR’s constant inconsistency. Racing guru David Poole agrees with VroomChick:
What’s a flagman to do?
Should the caution have come out on the final lap? NASCAR was in an impossible spot.
Throw the caution and people would scream, and you’d also have the issue of deciding who was ahead of […]

Kevin Harvick takes the Daytona 500
February 18, 2007 | 3 Comments
What an exciting end to the race! We were screaming for Mark Martin, but I’ll take a Harvick win, too. Anyone but Kyle Busch, who managed to wiggle his way into taking out the rest of the field.
The ever Never-Consistant NASCAR didn’t throw the caution under after Kevin took the checkered flag… I should hope Mark […]

Kevin Harvick Wins Orbitz 300 at Daytona
February 18, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Kevin Harvick doesn’t seem to have cooled off from his strong finish to the 2006 season, winning the first Busch race of the year at Daytona, the Orbitz 300. Harvick started 31st but steadily made his way to the front, leading the last 43 laps and beating Dave Blaney by three car lengths.
Blaney’s strong showing […]

Your 2007 Daytona Champion?

Kevin Harvick.
Not exactly going out on a limb here, but give me some credit for not picking Tony, as the bulk of the masses are (and for good reason). I’d like to go with my heart and pick Junior but for whatever reason I think Happy is going to take the victory today.
Other random prognostications, […]

Daytona Qualifying: Winners and Losers
February 16, 2007 | 1 Comment
Now that the Byzantine, contorted qualifying for the Daytona 500 is over, let’s look at some highlights and lowlights from the first week of the 2007 NEXTEL Cup season.
The Winners
Tony Stewart: Smoke is looking pretty dang fast and motivated so far, winning both the Shootout and his Gatorade Duel. If he can dodge trouble […]
